Metal Press Operator

A metal press operator operates machine tools, such as press brakes, shears, turret presses, ironworkers, and plate rolls that may be manually or computer numerically controlled (CNC).

The operator manually loads and unloads the unformed or partially formed parts into the machine tool and operates the equipment to complete the required operation. Parts are accurately located in the machine tool by guide rails, locator pins, and adjustable stops. The parts will be moved through a sequence of forming operations to complete the work required by the engineering drawings and specifications and according to the work order and operator instructions.

The operator monitors quality of the work and makes corrective adjustments to the machine tools or the cnc controls as necessary or reports faults to the supervisor.
