Heat Treater

The Heat Treater processes metal components with various cycles of heating and cooling, using specialized heat treating furnaces, in order to attain desired properties as specified on the part drawing such as tensile strength, hardness, wear resistance, toughness, ductility, malleability and microstructure. These properties are affected by the furnace temperatures, cycle times, furnace atmospheres, and cooling rates. The Heat Treater will operate hardness testers and other instruments in order to verify quality of the completed work, and to determine needed process adjustments.

The Heat Treater must have good knowledge of the properties of metals being processed, must be able to interpret and apply data from tables and charts in order to properly perform the heat treatment required, must be able to operate specialized equipment and make adjustments to process parameters in order to attain the required part characteristics.
